    AI can inform emotional decision-making, but it should never replace it. That line between assistance and authority is critical, and crossing it too far can have serious consequences.

    Emotional decisions are deeply human. They involve not just logic or data, but empathy, intuition, personal values, and relationships. As humans, we do not just weigh outcomes, we feel them. And that feeling—the emotional experience—is something no AI, no matter how advanced, can truly understand.

    That said, AI can absolutely support the process. In mental health care, for example, AI tools can help detect early signs of anxiety or depression by analyzing speech or writing patterns. In workplaces, AI can help track emotional well-being trends or identify signs of burnout. These insights can help people intervene earlier and more thoughtfully.

    But insight is not the same as judgment. And that is the key point.

    AI has no lived experience. It does not know what it means to lose someone, to love, to forgive, or to regret.

    It does not grow up in a culture or form beliefs through real life. So when it comes to final decisions that carry emotional weight like ending a relationship, firing an employee, deciding on a patient’s mental health treatment that responsibility must stay with humans.

    Personally, I believe AI should act like a tool that makes things clearer. It can reveal patterns we might miss, offer suggestions, and make sense of complicated emotions in a helpful way. But it should never pretend to feel for us or decide because of our feelings. That is something only a human should do.

    Emotions are not flaws in decision-making. They are part of what makes our decisions meaningful. AI can support that process, but the final voice should always be ours.

    Let me share a few examples that really bring it to life.

    In healthcare, human-centered AI supports doctors rather than making decisions for them. Think of tools that scan medical images to spot early signs of disease. They do not diagnose on their own but help physicians catch something they might have missed. It is still the doctor who makes the final call. This kind of AI gives professionals more time with patients and improves accuracy without removing the human connection that is essential in medicine.

    In education, AI-driven learning platforms adapt to how each student learns best. They do not replace teachers but give students personalized feedback, helping them stay motivated and confident. Teachers can focus more on mentoring and less on routine grading or tracking. That is human-centered AI at its best—it lifts up both the student and the teacher.

    Customer service is another space where this shows up. Chatbots can answer basic questions fast, but a human agent is still there to step in when emotions or complexity rise. The AI handles the easy stuff, freeing up humans for what they do best listening, empathizing, and solving deeper issues.

    On a more personal level, smart assistants that help people with disabilities—like reading text aloud for the visually impaired or helping someone control their home using voice—are incredibly powerful examples of AI designed around real human needs.

    But here is the important part: human-centered AI always involves responsibility. That means building systems that are transparent, that explain how decisions are made, and that include humans in the loop when it really matters. It is about asking not just can we do this with AI, but should we?

    To me, human-centered AI is technology that remembers who it is built for. It is not just intelligent it is thoughtful, respectful, and deeply aware that behind every data point is a real person with goals, emotions, and values.

    When I first started working with machine learning, I made this classic mistake: I normalized my entire dataset before splitting it. And guess what? My model performed great a little too great. 😅
    Turns out, I was leaking information from the test set into training without even realizing it.

    Here’s what I do now (and always recommend):

    1. First, split your data into train and test (or train/val/test).
    2. Fit your scaler only on the training set — not the whole dataset.

      scaler.fit(X_train)
    3. Then use that same scaler to transform both the training and test sets.

      X_train_scaled = scaler.transform(X_train)
      X_test_scaled = scaler.transform(X_test)

    That way, your model learns only from the training data — just like it would in a real-world setting. No sneak peeks at the test set.
    Trust me, once you catch this, you’ll never scale data the old way again. It’s a small thing, but it makes a huge difference in keeping your model honest.
