Who Is Eligible To Take Personal Leave At Walmart?
All full-time, part-time, and seasonal Walmart employees have access to PTO. But the pace at which PTO is accrued varies depending on the category.
Although seasonal or contract workers are entitled to PTO, they only receive normal PTO.
How Is Walmart PTO Calculated?
At Walmart, earned PTO hours are determined by the following factors:
- An associate’s position
- Tenure with the company
- Whether they receive hourly wages or salary
For instance, an employee may receive PTO at a rate of 1 hour for every 11.8 hours worked if they have worked for Walmart for three years. However, employees who have worked for the company for 20 years may be eligible to earn PTO at a rate of 1 hour for every 6.8 hours worked. What Counts Toward Earning PTO Hours? Can I Earn PTO While On PTO?
It can come as a surprise to learn that when taking PTO, employees can still accumulate PTO. For Walmart, PTO is acquired through hourly service hours, which include the following:
- Regular hours worked and overtime
- Disaster pay
- Bereavement (up to 3 days)
- Jury duty
- Enhanced military leave hours
- Reporting pay
- PTO used to replace work hours
- Sick and personal time used when you don’t have enough PTO hours
If I Work On A Holiday, Can I Use My PTO On That Day?
Since Walmart is open on many holidays, associates may have work assignments. However, the employee may use available PTO hours if they would rather spend the day with their loved ones.
You cannot, however, work at a store during a holiday and use PTO time.
What Is A PTO Plan Year?
The Walmart PTO plan year is different from a calendar year. It lasts from February 1 through January 31.
Do I Lose My Accrued PTO Hours At The End Of The Year?
At the plan year’s end, up to 80 hours of PTO for full-time employees and 48 hours for part-time employees may be carried over. The remaining balance will be “cashed out” and paid on the first paycheck in February for any associate with more PTO hours than these sums.
Cash-out payments, however, will be subject to the same tax obligations as your regular hourly income because this money is taxable.
How Do I Request PTO At Walmart?
You must go to the Global Time & Attendance (GTAP) site to submit a request for approval whenever you need to obtain a PTO. Employees must notify management as soon as they become aware that they may need to request time off to make sure that there will be replacement staff available.
Given that the procedure is automated, the GTAP system will choose the best PTO type for your circumstances. For instance, if you need to use sick time, any Protected PTO available will be spent first.
Additionally, every sick day for which you request PTO will be considered an excused absence if you have enough Protected PTO remaining to cover the time off due to the erratic nature of illnesses. Any additional requirement for PTO on the part of an associate, such as while waiting for a short-term incapacity to start, will be recognized as Regular PTO and an unprotected absence.
How Much Consecutive PTO Can Walmart Associates Use?
Associates may begin PTO requests at intervals of 15 minutes. There is currently no limit on the number of consecutive days that can be requested, provided that the associate has enough credit hours in their PTO balance.
What Happens If I Need More Time Off?
If you work full-time at Walmart, you may be able to extend your paid time off due to a significant medical condition by using short-term disability benefits.
In circumstances where short-term disability cannot be used, such as when a family member is ill, you may also be able to apply for an LOA.
Can Walmart Deny PTO?
When an absence is necessary, Walmart employees must obtain PTO as soon as possible. The request may be rejected if the associate lacks enough PTO hours.
Additionally, if there are not enough employees to cover your proposed leave, management may reject a PTO request. The attendance policy of Walmart states that any absence may still be counted as an incident.
